I Have Spring Fever

(To my Southern Hemisphere friends, please excuse the North centric tone of this post, but I couldn’t help it)

When is Summer coming?

The sun has been shining and it’s been lovely and warm this month. Spring flowers are blooming all over and I love the scent that is carried on the warm breezes – even if my sinuses don’t.  Most of the schools around here have just finished spring break and are heading into the last stretch of the school year, and all around people are starting to think about summer.

This includes me.

When I was a kid we couldn’t wait for summer! Long lazy days of softball and swimming, riding our bikes with friends, and playing nighttime games of hide and seek in the neighborhood… and if you were one of the lucky ones, a week away at camp!

Things have changed… and not just for the kids.

As adults, we don’t get summers off anymore. Every day is a work day, and our weekends are full of housework and responsibility. If we are lucky to get some time off it’s a day here or there, and vacations, even fun and relaxing ones, often bring about a whole bunch of their own work.

When was the last time you ran through your sprinklers… on purpose?

When was the last time you took a picnic to the park?

When was the last time you rode your bike or roller skated through your neighborhood with  no destination in mind… for fun, NOT exercise?

I am making a decision here and now.

I am not going to let this summer pass me by with all work and no play, and I want you to make that commitment too!

I am working on a crazy idea that has come to me… a summer camp for US… for adults. A weekend warrior summer camp, with all of the camp fun, but no travel plans to make, no time to take of work and no bunk beds (sunburn and mosquito bites optional).

But whether you come to camp or not, I want you to let yourself have some FUN this summer!

So what are you going to do to have this summer?
